VENICE HOTEL & TRAVEL - VENICE ITALY

Venice Hotel and Travel Guide - A city surrounded by canals is what the destination of Venice has to offer. This city serves as the capital of the Veneto region of northeastern Italy, which is spread across several different small islands. The city is built entirely on water, offering some of the finest architecture in the area. A trip to Venice will place visitors close to the Adriatic Sea, as well as the Po and Piave Rivers.

What makes this destination well known and unique is the fact that there are about 150 canals connecting more than 115 islands. There are also close to 400 bridges offering access to the various islands. This makes the only way to travel throughout the city by way of water or on foot, also making this the largest urban area in Europe that does not allow car travel. How about that? A city that doesn’t need cars or trucks to successfully function.

The traditional Venetian boat called the gondola is a great place to start when experiencing the city of Venice. Popular among tourists, the boats are also used in ceremonies, such as weddings and funerals. For travel along the more popular canal routes, motorized waterbuses, which are referred to as “vaporettos,” reach many of the city’s islands. Private boat travel is also popular.

Venice also serves as an important center for commerce, as well as offers a variety of artistic displays for tourists to enjoy, especially hailing from the Renaissance period. For an idea of attractions to visit, there are palaces, palazzis, churches and other buildings to consider, including Ca’ d’ Oro, Palazzo Labia, Basilica di San Marco, as well as the Rialto Bridge. When planning a trip to Venice, you will encounter an array of boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Just outside of the city, some of the best beaches in the country can be located.
